Last week, the inCommunity Connect team joined practitioners from across the Australian community services sector at the Third Sector Au Sector Thrive National Youth Summit in Darwin, a national summit focused on youth policy and practice.

When considering youth homelessness, a theme that emerged from the summit, as shared by many with lived experience, is that the experience is a continuum that may span several years – from sleeping rough, entering into crisis and transitional accommodation, through to long-term stable housing.

Since our inception as an organisation over 40 years ago, inCommunity has sought to walk alongside young people on this journey, providing safe touchpoints, empowering them with tenancy education, and ultimately inspiring them to believe they can.

A special shoutout to the Queensland Youth Services for sharing how they embed the Tenancy Skills Institute’s education courses in their support of young people in Townsville, upskilling them with the fundamentals of renting for long-term housing success.

It was a fantastic few days at the summit, and our team members, Rachel, Chris, and Cath (pictured left to right), thoroughly enjoyed contributing to the conversation on how we can support young people, particularly on their journeys to safe and stable housing.
